Wow…just saw this.  I have been away from the internets for a while.  So glad to see it up.  I have this thing about gifts.  I kind of love to give gifts, but there are certain kinds of people that I really love to get gifts for.  Where the experience of giving really is better then taking. People who value things and put them to use. In other words, there are people who are really great to get gifts for.  Marke is definitely one of those people…and what a great photo of it.  :)

MADE.
(A beautiful gift from my friend Christopher Kuehl)

Lost in Translation: From cool to vulgar. This is an excellently crafted piece of equipment and well decorated…sort of. For the average English speaker, this a creative styling of the word “made” by breaking it up in half, may seem simplistically cool. For the Chinese speaker, it looks more like “ma de”, which in pinyin (the phonetic spelling of Chinese characters) can most easily be interpreted as “妈的” which is the Chinese version of “f*ck”. Thus, this zippo can be cool to some and silly to others.

To whom it may concern…

As some of you may have noticed, posts lately have been far and few between.  I have recently made a significant change in my life, moving from California across the world to China.  It’s been a crazy wild ride and I recently became settled enough to document the things that I see and experience on film.  Please follow my new blog if you are interested to see this country through a Chinese-American Perspective. The link is here.
